Notes for Benjamin John PRZYWITOWSKI
During WW2 he joined the navy. His first assignment wasthe U.S.S. Plymouth. This ship was formerly the Alva a luxury yachtbuilt in Germany and owned by the Vanderbilt family. The Vanderbiltssold the ship to the Navy for $1 and it was refitted as a gunboat, subseeker. On Benjamins first voyage, they were off Cape Hatteras, N.C.when the ship was torpedoed by a U boat. After spending four hours inthe ocean, actually right on the gulf stream, he was rescued by theH.M.S. Calypso.
He was born Bronislauw Raymond. When he went to attendschool his sister changed his name to Benjamin. John is hisconfirmation name.
Said that he has some cousins in Boundbrook, N.J. by thename of Kiniski (?) and Golombieski (?) (this means pigeon in Polish).
He also read recently where a Przywitowski in Lancaster who worked forthe I.R.S. died. He knows that there are relatives in Cleveland, Ohio.They have something to do with a Metal company there. There are alsosome cousins in Wilmington, Del.
